“j’aime les ponies”

Nerd alert, more bookmarklets. This first set takes advantage of Google’s translation service:

Create a folder called “translate” or the like in your bookmarks toolbar (in IE, this would be the Favorites folder called “Links”), and then save the above links as bookmarks to that folder. Navigate to the page you want to translate, and choose the appropriate bookmark. This is good stuff if you’ve been itching to read, say, Le Monde or Critique of Judgment, er, I mean Kritik der Urteilskraft.

The next one will check Google for a cached copy of whatever page you’re trying to view:

This one works best in IE and not in Mozilla or Phoenix, because of the unfortunate way Mozilla handles unreachable sites.

One more:

Go to a page that opens its links in new windows (for example, chomp), click on the bookmarklet, then try opening the link. In most cases, the link will open in the current browser window. It won’t work for pages that use Javascript to open new windows, though.

  2. indeed! works great in safari too. i added the translation link directly to my bookmark bar, one-click translation is really useful
