anti-war rallies Saturday

Saturday appears to be a big day for rallies against the looming war in Iraq. Footstools will be provided, and at exactly 1930 GMT, peace-loving people around the world will simultaneously leap to the ground, unleashing colossal seismic forces that we expect will engulf the White House in a fury of tidal waves, swiftly sweeping it into international waters, where the law of no man prevails. Barring that, we will march.

The rally in Austin will take place at 1pm at the usual place, in front of the state capitol building. I’m not thrilled about at least one of the speakers, and as we’ve discussed before, these events tend to be derailed by a plethora of random tangential causes, which is not a baseless complaint by any means, but it seems to me that it’s still more important now to show up and be counted. I haven’t done this sort of thing in a few years, but I guess I think it still matters at least a little bit. See you there.

  1. i’ll go to this one, the last one was too early in the morning… weather forecast is a chance of showers, but it won’t be too cold at least.

  2. I’ll be there. However, if I get too excited and start 1) yelling at the police 2) talking to the media or 3) calling for a sit-in, it’s your responsibility to send me home.

  3. I’ll be there with an umbrella with which to 1) keep the rain off and/or 2) poke sarah if she engages in any yelling, talking, or calling.

    I think I’ll wear a suit.

  7. I’ll be at the anti-war rally in Dallas, but I’ll be favoring the invasion of Iraq. What you don’t realize is that we’re already at war. Muslims and Arabsa hate America and desire to destroy it. Terrorist atttacks in the US will become more frequesnt and more severe. And these terrorist groups are funded by contries such as Iraq, Iran, Syria, et al… So, the US must stop these attacks on us by going to the source. If you can’t understand this (or refuse to understand it), you are being both naive and irresponsible. So I say, yes, certainlt do invade Iraq and kill Saddam Hussein. Any American opposed to this is, well, un-American.

  8. Say, I’d be happy to discuss this with anybody with an intelligent, nuanced perspective. Non-paranoiacs a plus.
