It shouldn’t have to be said, but punk rock is many things to many people. It is this to me: Punk rock is 1969, 1977, 1980, 1985, 1991, 2002, and all the times inbetween, but most of all it is now. It is about choosing your own friends and your own identity on your own terms because everyone else thinks you’re a freak. It is about having the naïveté to believe that your anger is an important emotion and about having the wisdom to keep believing it. It is about being too smart for your own good, even. If you have been led to think that punk rock is about some asshole hipster’s flavor of the month, whether that means bands, clothes, or friends, then you’ve let someone else take a piece of your heart and your life away from you, and that makes me mad, because I hate it when someone believes in something that is real and true but stops, and, more than anything else, I hate having to say corny shit like this.

hmm, the music’s important, too.
what i’m trying to get at here is that 1) one should see essence not appearance, and 2) maturity has nothing to do with rejecting youth.

Well, since I think this might have something to do with something I wrote, I’ll go ahead and, against my better judgement, try to clarify something I meant:
maturity has nothing to do with rejecting youth, but it does have something to do with building something better on top of that foundation. You don’t have to reject something to move beyond it.
Anyway, I was just babbling to begin with.
I did enjoy your post, though, Jacob.

I enjoy your posts, too. I hope by now that we have an understanding about sometimes disagreeing with each other, possibly misunderstanding each other, and so on.
So this means that you’ve gone post-punk now, right? I’m getting you a Stockholm Monsters CD for Christmas.
