friday at beerland

the hate daggers

Last night Hoss drove us over to Beerland, where we filled up on whiskey and Lone Star and watched the Bad Apples and the Hate Daggers. The Bad Apples played a fun, tight set, something worth remarking on since they lost much of their equipment yesterday to a car thief. There’s brilliant pop potential in their material and in their presence — I can’t wait for someone to release their record. I don’t know what a hate dagger is, but this is the third time I’ve seen the band, and they’re already the band that I wish I could see every weekend. No other band in Austin comes close to evoking the immediacy and the visceral thrill of a Hate Daggers performance — menacing metal guitar lines quickly engulfed in a blur of noise, rage, and speed. Fucking incredible.
