above the drifting summer

a simple two-color decoration that recently appeared in the vacant lot at the end of my street. it interested me for two reasons. first, it has aesthetics. you rarely see anything besides little tags in my neighborhood. second, i like how it brings out the background surface it was painted on. driving past (which i do almost daily) it looks much more complicated than it actually is, then you get up close and realize the nice contrast is the old fence and the brick wall, not the paint. the old fence and the brick wall have been there for years, but were previously invisible. across the beltway from here is a hulking wreck of a mall that with recent closure has completed its long, slow dissolve into similar invisibility.
