thief of baghdad

so since around the end of april i've been carrying a microcassette recorder with me everywhere i go. i usually need it in bed right before i fall asleep and when i'm driving around in the car. those are the two situations in which i tend to think of things. not so much going for walks in the evening, which is more for clearing my mind. although i do think of things there too, taking the recorder out walking is impractical. using mnemonics and repetition, i have been able to keep eight separate thoughts in my head for a couple of hours until i get home and can dump them all into scratch.txt. even while listening to music.

talking into the recorder in the car is easy, and it's even easy in crowded restaurants. road and crowd noise aren't problematic. but using it in bed remains awkward. i have to transcribe those quickly the next day, because they tend to be fragmentary and don't make a lot of sense after a few days. for example, i haven't been able to figure out there's a fireplace with a giant piece of crystal filled with colored rods from last week. i think it's gone forever.

much like the transfer of sovereignty to iraq, i reached my june 30th deadline two days ahead of schedule. unlike iraq however, i predict that i will make significant progress in july.
